Beadmaking: Skill Building

Do you have the basics down & want to build on your skills? These 4 classes are intended for students who’ve spent at least 10 hours at the torch (practice or class time) and are confidently able to make a basic bead. We’ll build on the skills from the Next Steps classes, but your experience at the torch will see you through if you haven’t taken the preceding class. Each class is 2 hours and all supplies are included.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Beadmaking (or equivalent), 10 hours of bead making experience or the Next Steps class in the series.

Class Descriptions:

Shaping & Surface Manipulation
We’ll refine our shaping skills & work on getting the desired outcome. Bigger shapes such as bicones & tabs give you a larger canvas to decorate & make fantastic focal beads. We’ll explore surface manipulation including creases & ribs.

Dot Patterns
Now that you’re able to place a dot where you want it, we can work on dot patterns for intricate surface decoration. Learn how the glass will move on the surface of the bead to create interesting patterns. We’ll work with stacked dots & discuss the color choices for striking or subtle patterns.

Flowers 1
In this class we’ll work on simple flower patterns with stringer vines in the background. You should know how to place a dot where you want it and pull stringer before taking this class.

Special Effects: Luster Glass
When treated correctly, this special kind of glass will get a shiny, metallic surface. Learn how to work with it & use its special properties to your advantage. Basic stringer experience will help you get the most out of this class.
