Instructions

You can turn your family pictures into a piece of art by printing them on fusing photo paper and enclosing them in glass. It is easy to use and a terrific way to give a personalized gift.

What kind of printers can I use?

Laser Jet printers with high iron oxide in the toner. HP toners are reported to have a high iron oxide content.

How does it work?

A simple explanation of how laser printers work is that the toner has iron in its content. The printer uses an electrostatic charge to stick the toner to the paper. When using the fusing photo paper, the pigment in the toner burns out and leaves just the iron. The iron is what produces the sepia colored image.

What are the instruction?

1)  Begin by printing your black & white (grey scale) images from your computer onto your laser printer with the use of a blank piece of photo fusing paper.

2)  Print onto the glossy side of the blank paper. Note: You should feed your printer one sheet at a time to avoid jamming the printer since this paper is thicker than regular paper.

3)  Allow the ink to dry and settle onto the paper for a few minutes and it should be ready for application.

4)  Cut out the images as close as possible to the image and place them in water for about 30 seconds. Holding the picture you will feel the printed image starting to slide off the white paper; it is ready to apply to the glass.

5)  Slid the image into place and wipe off excess water and remove any air or water bubbles under the image. Allow setting/drying time of at least 3 hours, more if possible.

6)  Cap image with clear and fire in your kiln.

7)  Recommendations:

a.      Tack fuse with out cap 1st, then cap with a transparent to full fuse.

b.      Use thin transparent cap.

c.      Use a lower full fuse temperature when possible.
